There are two challenges in groups or multiple groups:
1. what kind of groups
2. the contents into groups
Recalling the concept of diversification, it is a good idea to keep a variety of groups. They usually have 7-8 groups that see to invest.
Typical groups may consist of stocks or mutual funds or ETFs. These are just some examples.
- Sector
- Asset
- Large Cap
- Mid Cap
- Small Cap
- High Dividend
- Foreign
- National
- Link
- IBD 50
- Best choices of an author
- Emerging
- Conservative
- Hello Growth
The challenge with a watchdog group is how to create and how big should it be? How many shares should be included in each group?
While there are no precise rules for creating a universe of stocks, there are some good guidelines , along with common sense .
Size - a group that is too large it becomes difficult to handle and makes it more difficult to analyze and find the rising stars . Try to keep my groups below 130 and most between 40 and 70 symbols, and some of between 12 to 15 symbols.
Duplication - try to avoid companies , funds or ETFs that are essentially the same as another in the group.
Creating the actual list of funds ( or stocks or ETFs ) in a group can be done in two ways :
Task - use an agent or detection of another source to search and whittle the best prospects. This is the focus of " homework" .
Copy a list - have a list already published by another source . In other words , let someone else do all tasks. Yes , half of my groups were created this way from sources such as:
